Figure in the landscape Workshop! June 2nd-4th, 2026 $650/Person
I’ve been wanting to incorporate figures into my work in a way that feels natural and integrated with the landscape, without making them look overly stylized or cartoonish. I want the figure to blend seamlessly with the environment, focusing less on strict anatomical accuracy and more on capturing the essence of the form. Think more Van Gogh than Renoir.
Oil Painting Workshop: Integrating Figures and Faces into Landscapes
In this workshop, you'll learn how to paint the human figure and face in oil and seamlessly incorporate them into a landscape. Focus on key techniques like anatomy, lighting, and color mixing to capture realistic figures and faces, while also understanding how they interact with the surrounding environment. While you may not leave as a portrait or figure artist, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to include faces and figures in your landscape paintings without hesitation. This workshop will help you enhance your landscapes with lifelike, dynamic human elements. This workshop is for advanced and intermediate painters only. Expect hands-on guidance, practical tips, and personalized feedback to develop your own style.
Some considerations:
You should be comfortable with oil painting fundamentals—color mixing, brushwork, values, etc.
You'll want to bring reference photos of figures in landscapes that match your aesthetic (perhaps some Van Gogh reproductions or similar gestural work)
Be clear with the instructor about your stylistic goals early on so they can tailor feedback accordingly
