Three weeks inside the act of painting itself.
No prescribed subjects. No formulas. Just the real work of learning to use color, line, form, texture, and value as a full visual language — and discovering what that language looks like when it's yours.
By the end you'll have finished pieces, the beginnings of a body of work, and something harder to name: a clearer sense of your own visual instincts and where to take them next.
Beyond the Landscape: Paint and You This is not a landscape class. Tuesdays & Wednesdays | 4 hours each day | Plus a complimentary 1-hour planning and materials session 25 hours total | $900 | Limited to 5 experienced painters I am looking for five artists who want to try something new. We will meet the last three Tuesdays and Wednesdays in July and make 2-D art. I will be your guide and assistant. July 7 1-hour planning session, 10am July 15 & 16 July 21 & 22 July 28 & 29 10am–2pm 10am–2pm 10am–2pm This is a three-week exploration of painting itself — color, line, form, texture, and value as a full visual language. Not what to paint, but how to make art using paint. These will be your ideas and your exploration. I'll facilitate the entire process — and if you arrive without a direction, you're welcome to follow mine until yours emerges. We'll push into unfamiliar territory: materials you haven't trusted, color relationships that resist you, unfamiliar tools and supports. We'll explore what abstraction can be when it isn't decorative — when it carries actual weight and intention. This class draws on six years of college training and a lifetime of painting — at least half of it spent learning how to explore in paint and develop a concept. That accumulated understanding is what I'll bring to facilitate your process. If you're tired of the landscape, want to find your visual and conceptual voice, push past a block, or simply think more deeply about what paint can do — this class was designed for you.
