Summer Art Exercises: Painting 15 (BRUSHSTROKE CONTROL)

braitman 004 copy

Today we will create a painting using all open strokes. Open strokes are created when we hold our bush very parallel to the surface and let the paint/surface already on the canvas gently pull the paint off of our brush. The result is a stroke with "open" holes in it, allowing you to see through to the colors and surface below it.

This is a great stroke to build interest in your layered oil paintings!

We had a good time building interest in our oil paintings in our Surface Workshop with Nicholas Stewart. Thank you all for making that workshop a great one!
